Kastabala

Our second stop on the tour was to the Roman ruins of Hierapolis and the Castle Kastabala. For a brief and confusing history of the area please click on the picture of the yellow sign.
From what I understand from the sign the Romans built the columned road and the coliseum. Then the Christians came and built the basilica and a few other things that are still standing. Then the Crusaders came and built the castle.
The Roman ruins were by far my favorite part of the trip. They are so beautiful and in such good condition considering their age and the fact that you can walk right up and touch them.
We also picked the perfect time of year for this trip- all the wildflowers only added to the magic of the place.
The details on these columns is so fabulous. There were big black lizards climbing all over the place, too.
